Marriage Counselling (Pre, Post, During)

The most complicated relationship on earth. I am not sure why, but it seems we often go into this thinking we are prepared and not realising that nothing can really prepare us. One of my passions is helping people maintain this difficult relationship.

I did the maths on what broken marriages cost the country in measurable figures. It came to about $1000 per working person, per year. I reckon if we spend just a fraction of that maintaining and preparing for this difficult but rewarding relationship it will pay dividends!

In reality they have never prepared for what lies ahead. In marriage two families try and live together from a totally different set of cultural assumptions. Every family is its own culture and needs to be treated as such.

“What shall I do then?” - Upskill and become self aware!

If you invest just a fraction of what your wedding will cost into some premarital (or even better, 'pre engaged') counselling you will find yourself having much fewer surprises, and many more tools for dealing with the ups and downs of married life. There will still be struggles, but they will be resolved if you can identify what is your 'stuff', what are “echo's” and learn to negotiate instead of remaining in pretend agreement.

Marriage is an intense relationship and requires intense preparation, and intense skills.

What will make your marriage last the distance? I don't mean to be offensive but the statistics for marriages ending in divorce are terrible and those statistics are no different in the Church. Why do we let people get married without insisting they prepare first?

What will you do to make your marriage different? What will you do differently that will allow you to go the distance?

Marriage is a celebration of relationship - A safe place for intimacy within commitment. Take care of it, and it will be fun!
